Medtronic Reports Results of World's Smallest Pacemaker in MARVEL 2 Study for Patients with Atrioventricular Block

Shots:

  • The MARVEL 2 study involves assessing of Micra Transcatheter Pacing System (TPS) in 75 patients out of which 40 had complete heart block and normal sinus rhythm while all were included in the primary safety objective across 12 centers including Hong Kong- Malaysia- EU and the US
  • Results: AV synchrony is measure during algorithm-mediated AV synchronous pacing vs single-chamber ventricular (VVI) pacing. Improvement in synchrony and cardiac function- patients having >70% AV synchrony (95% vs 0%); median AV synchrony (94.3% vs 26.9%); blood flow from the left ventricle increased by 1.7 cm
  • Micra TPS is the first and only leadless pacemaker- less than one-tenth the size of traditional pacemakers and is attached to the heart with small tines and delivers electrical impulses that pace the heart via electrodes at the end of the device
